The Salem State University Art Department faculty awards the prestigious Vito Sammartano Outstanding Performance Award annually to a single art major who has exemplified creative achievement in Studio Disciplines.
The award was created in honor of Mr. Sam after his passing in 1981. Vito Sammartano was an enormously popular and effective professor who inspired hundreds of young artists to live and work creatively to their full potential.
